Your Right to Data Deletion
Under data protection regulations (GDPR, CCPA, and others), you have the right to request deletion of your personal data. Melo respects this right and provides a simple process to permanently delete your account and all associated information.
What Data Will Be Deleted
When you request data deletion, we will permanently remove:
- Personal Information: Your WhatsApp phone number and display name
- Financial Data: All expense and income records you've shared
- Message History: All conversations and commands sent to Melo
- AI Processing Data: Any cached or processed versions of your messages
- Usage Analytics: Your individual usage patterns and statistics
- Account Settings: Any preferences or customizations you've made
Data That May Be Retained
For legal and operational reasons, we may retain some information even after deletion:
- Aggregated Analytics: Anonymous, aggregated usage statistics (no personal identifiers)
- Legal Compliance: Records required by law for tax, fraud prevention, or regulatory purposes
- Security Logs: Technical logs needed for security and abuse prevention (without personal content)
- Financial Records: If you had paid subscriptions, basic transaction records may be retained for accounting
⚠️ Important Notice
Data deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. You will lose access to all your expense history, reports, and insights. Please export any data you want to keep before requesting deletion.
How to Request Data Deletion

We'll verify your identity to ensure account security (usually instant via WhatsApp number)

We'll send a final confirmation message before proceeding with deletion

Your data will be permanently deleted within 30 days, and you'll receive confirmation
Alternative Deletion Methods
If you cannot use WhatsApp, you can also request deletion via:
- Email: Send a deletion request to deletion@trymelo.io from your registered email
- Support Form: Fill out our data deletion form on our website
- Phone: Call our support line (contact details below)
Verification Requirements
To protect your privacy and prevent unauthorized deletions, we may ask you to verify:
- Your WhatsApp phone number
- Recent expense examples you've shared with Melo
- Account creation date or last usage date
- Any custom categories or settings you've used
Data Export Before Deletion
Before deleting your account, you can request a copy of your data:
- Send "EXPORT MY DATA" to our WhatsApp bot
- You'll receive a JSON file with all your expenses and categories
- The export includes transaction history, summaries, and insights
- Files are sent securely and expire after 7 days
Processing Time
Data deletion requests are processed according to the following timeline:
- Acknowledgment: Within 24 hours of your request
- Identity Verification: 1-3 business days (if additional verification needed)
- Data Deletion: Complete within 30 days of verified request
- Confirmation: You'll receive final confirmation once deletion is complete
What Happens After Deletion
Once your data is deleted:
- You will no longer be able to access Melo using your WhatsApp number
- All expense tracking history will be permanently lost
- You can create a new account anytime with a fresh start
- We cannot recover any deleted data
- Third-party AI services will also remove your processed data
Exceptions to Deletion
We may decline deletion requests in limited circumstances:
- Active legal investigations or disputes
- Fraud prevention requirements
- Regulatory compliance obligations
- Outstanding financial obligations
If we cannot complete your deletion request, we'll explain the specific reason and expected timeline.
Data Protection for Minors
If you are under 18 years old:
- Parents or legal guardians can request deletion on your behalf
- We may require additional verification for minor accounts
- Deletion requests for minors are prioritized and processed quickly
